Carry Water. Always carry your own water. If you are sure there will be water at your destination carry just slightly more than sufficient water to last until you arrive. Water is of greater importance than food to your survival. Always filter any water you find along the trail and that you are in need of using - unless the water is from a natural spring. If you can fix a long drinking straw to the water bottle so you can drink as you move the better.
Rope. The rope is a very important mountain hiking gear and for it you will be using a specialized rope. If you are lead hiking then you will tie the rope to your harness this way you will carry the rope with you as you ascend the mountain. You can place bolts and carabiners into the surface on the mountain in order to tack the rope onto it. This way if you are using a belay device and there is a hiker hiking below you will be able to catch your hiking partner in case of a fall.
Dress in layers in order to ensure you maintain the proper body temperature with changes in weather. The weather can change drastically when you are out on a long hike and you need to be prepared for all type of weather conditions. Avoid cotton clothing because it holds moisture for long periods. Use polypropylene and other synthetic materials. Make sure you wear dark clothing because they dry faster. Wear light colored clothing if you‘re hiking in areas known for their tick infestation.
First try to consider the length of time within which you plan to do with your hiking and where. Camping overnight whether on a hiking trail or hiking park would mean that you will need additional supplies with you such as a camping tent and a sleeping bag among other things. These first few things are considered the basic things to bring if your little adventure requires spending some nights over at a camp or trail. Or if you wish you may also come up with your own checklist for your hiking adventure. Having one especially if it is going to be your first will serve to guide you and make things a lot more convenient.
