In addition to the two previously discussed camp types I want to point out two additional classifications: Classroom and Field Instruction. Due to the limited availability of spring football some camps are conducted in a classroom-only mode. Others guarantee live snaps on the field at colleges and universities when teams are conducting spring scrimmages. Both can be valuable learning experiences and I wanted to point out this difference as we discuss our checklist.
Camps Based On Age Groups. Most camps are based on particular age groups and the learning programs are designed keeping in mind those particular groups. For instance you belong to the child group there are children‘s summer camps that are best suited for children. Similarly you are a grown kid a youth camp can be the best alternative for you. So. all learning programs as well as activities are planned out keeping in mind this teen aged group. This is the phase when you are entering a maturity phase and this is the time when you need to have the training of your body and your intellect. You need to choose the alternative which offers learning programs catering the needs of teenagers.
Health Concerns and Safety. If your teen has any health concerns such as allergies asthma etc. be sure that the youth camp staff is aware of these. Again most summer youth camp registration forms will have a section for you to provide this information. Also be sure that any medications your youth needs are sent to the camp along with them. You may be able to pack them in their bag but some camps will not allow a teen to keep their medications in and around the bunk. If possible place the medications in the original containers then pack them all together in a clear plastic bag that is properly labeled. This would not apply to emergency inhalers but it is something to clear up with the camp staff before your teen leaves for summer youth camp.
Summer‘s over and most parents and families are storing away memories of both summer and summer camp (if they attended of course). However there are many reasons to keep thinking about summer camps and camps in general. Don‘t put thoughts of camp on mothballs!
